POTENTIAL OF Assam Rural Non-Farm Sector The Rural Non-Farm Sector (RNFS) has a tremendous scope for development in the State. In a recently conducted survey, NABARD has identified 10 sectors for development which includes sectoral schemes like Agriculture, Fish rearing and processing, Rural Retail Trade, Sericulture & Silk Textile, Fibre products, Construction, Small Plantation products, Handloom, Handicraft mainly cane, bamboo and wood products. These activities are to be developed for creation of additional employment in' the rural areas. The development Departments like Agriculture, Handloom and Textile, Sericulture, Fishery, Veterinary, Panchayat and Rural Development etc. are to be associated to implement these schemes within a definite time frame. Tea Industry

Tea Industry Assam is the world's single largest tea growing region, producing more than 1,500,000 pounds of tea annually. Assam has a first flush and a second flush tea. The first flush tea has a rich and fresh aroma, while the second flush produces the famous tippy tea (with a golden colour leaf). The golden tip presents in Assam tea makes it sweet and smooth and is more popular throughout the World. Due to the rainfall of 100-150 inches per year, it helps the tea plantation. Assam Arts & Crafts From time immemorial, the people of Assam have traditionally been craftsmen. The magic of art of Assamese craftsmen is a common passion inspiring the deep senses with its’ age old simplicity and sophistication. Though, Assam is renown for its exquisite silks, bamboo and cane products, several other crafts are also made here. The colourful Assamese Japi (headgear), terracotta of Gauripur and various decorative items bear witness to the craftsmanship of this land. Assam Handloom is indeed noteworthy offering a mosaic of colours and contours with pleasing motifs and designs.
